Psychical Research Science Society presents
Open Research Studies
Scientific departments that focus on psychical research and paranormal investigations who are currently looking for individuals and groups to help with their studies will be posted on this page.
Fil Kinnersley, a PhD candidate in the field of Parapsychology, from the University of Northampton in the UK is studying Spiritualist Mediumship.

Brain Imaging Correlates of Reported Psychic Abilities
The purpose of this study is to learn whether reported psychic abilities are associated with brain structure. If you are age 13 or above and have received a brain MRI scan, you may be able to participate. The study involves:
Completing an online survey asking about questions related to personality traits, psychic ability, and mental health.
Uploading the files of your brain scan from your computer, CD/USB , or patient portal
Study activities will take about 5-10 minutes. Participants who complete all study activities can explore a 3D model of their brain online.
The study is conducted in collaboration with Dr. Spiro Pantazatos at Columbia University and New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI IRB #7644).
In a noetic experience, someone receives information or energy from beyond the conventional notions of space and time. An experience of oneness or peace, a message from a deceased relative, a mind-to-mind communication with another person — these are all noetic experiences.
At IONS, we are seeking to better understand these relatively common occurrences.
Want to help? We are collecting these experiences in the Noetic EXperiences Archive (NEXA).
To participate, you must be 18 years of age or older, able to read and write in English, and to fully understand and consent to the study activities. No compensation.

Have you ever had a spiritual or transcendent experience? It might be noetic.

Near-Death Experiences: Comparing Two Scales of Near-Death Experience Features, IRB-SBS Protcol #4885
Call for research participants who have had a near-death experience
Dr. Bruce Greyson and Dr. Marieta Pehlivanova at the Division of Perceptual Studies (University of Virginia) are recruiting individuals who have had a near-death experience (NDE) for an online study. These are personal and transformative experiences that sometimes happen when one is close to death or under the threat of death. This research asks for your opinion about the wording of questionnaires about NDEs and will allow researchers to improve these questionnaires to better reflect the experiences people have.
Participation in the study will take up to 20 minutes of your time and will consist of a single online questionnaire.
You are eligible to participate if you have had an NDE, are 18 years of age or older, and are fluent in English.
This research project has been reviewed by the University of Virginia’s Institutional Review Board for the Social Sciences (protocol #4885). You will not be paid for your participation.
If you are interested in enrolling in this study, please follow this link to the questionnaire.
Please do not fill out this questionnaire more than once, if you receive it from different sources.
Thank you for your support of this important research.
